Our History
DAK was opened for business in 1977, in Cupertino, California by David Kjenaas. In 1981 I opened the division in Sacramento, CA. DAK has seen many changes in the industry in it’s 40 plus years in business. But I maintain a commitment to being known, recognized and respected in the business community as a dependable team of dedicated individuals who place honesty, integrity, service, and customer satisfaction first.

Over the last several years I have continued to adopt Sustainable Landscape as a whole system approach. I am accomplishing this through landscape auditing, design, smart controllers, native plants, construction, landscape conversions and maintenance practices that encompass ecologically sound practices.
Some reasons why I am so excited about Sustainable Landscape:
- It saves water, time, energy and money.
- It provides cleaner waterways and oceans, promotes wildlife habitat and contributes to groundwater recharge.
- It provides aesthetic and functional upgrades to outdated traditional landscapes.
- It reduces the use of fertilizers, gas powered maintenance equipment, reduces energy consumption and contributes to overall air quality.
- It’s becoming increasingly required by regulation such as MWELO here in California and the EPA and WaterSense-Labeled products and certified professionals.
